Meet Aldyn: Staying grounded in a busy city, working in fashion, and her favorite local NYC spots

Updated: Sep 16, 2022

As we wrap up the "social summer" series, I am excited to introduce you to my friend Aldyn. We met this spring but I feel like I've known her forever. She is one of those people who right when you meet, makes you feel so comfortable and connected. She is so kind and inspiring and it is a joy to have her in my life. I am so excited for you to get to know her today.

Hi Aldyn, Tell us about you, where are you from, what did you study and what are you doing now in the fashion industry? at do you do, and who do you serve?

I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina. I studied Communications at Florida State University and am currently the Specialty Sales Manager at French Connection US.

What do you love most about your job at French Connection?

I love getting to see a new collection and choosing my favorite pieces-the ones I think will really stand out to customers. It's always so exciting to me to try to decipher which trends our customers will go for each season.

What is one piece of advice you would tell yourself at the beginning of your career?

Maintaining a positive attitude and being a team player will set you apart. Also it's okay to have different opinions than everyone else, your personal style is something to value.

What is your favorite season to dress for? What are some trends you are currently loving?

Fall! I absolutely love jackets and coats, I have a fast growing collection. I am loving that bright pink is having a moment along with retro vibes. My personal style has always leaned towards that of the 70s.

As a local, what is are a few of your favorite things to do in New York City?

One of my favorite things to do is ride a citi bike up the west side highway and spend the day in Soho. Felix Coffee Roasters is the cutest coffee shop on Green street + I love getting to shop for inspiration at the high end designer stores. I recently discovered the Gucci store has a little library attached--highly recommend! A few of my favorite restaurants in that area are Little Prince and Sugarfish. I'm also convinced The Wayan has the best cocktails in NYC.

What do you enjoy most about summertime?

I love that NYC feels more carefree in the summertime-everything slows down a little bit as New Yorkers are in and out of the city. My favorite escape is my parents lake house at Smith Mountain lake, I try to go a few times every summer.

How do you stay focused and grounded in a busy city?

My faith is really what has kept me grounded. Keeping Jesus at the center of my life allows me to enjoy my career rather than making it my identity (and hopefully be a light to those in the industry). Getting to work in fashion is such a gift from God that I truly enjoy! And being in community with other Christian women helps me so much to remember what is truly important.

Quick Questions:

When it comes to picking out your outfits for a trip-

Do you overpack or under pack?

Definitely an over packer. I have an upcoming trip to London + Paris and made a powerpoint where I planned my outfits hah! I knew I would overpack so much if I didn't plan each outfit ahead of time.

What is your go-to accessory to wear?

I wear a lot of simple gold jewelry and sunglasses are a necessity.

Do you prefer beach or mountains?

Ah tough question, I love both! If I had to choose I'd say the beach. I love getting to spend the day in the sun and nothing is more relaxing to me than sitting on the beach listening to the waves. Also, watching sunsets is one of my favorite things to do and nothing beats a beach sunset.

Thank you so much, Aldyn! I am so grateful for you and your friendship, thank you for sharing your insights and favorites with us!
